1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held the third MIKTA Young Leaders’ Camp in Yongin from November 21 till 23, bringing together 43 undergraduate and graduate students from the MIKTA member states -- 15 from the Republic of Korea, 11 from the United Mexican States, 7 from the Republic of Indonesia, 4 from the Republic of Turkey, and 6 from the Commonwealth of Australia.

MIKTA is a consultative mechanism among the five aforementioned middle power countries launched during the 68th session of the UN General Assembly in September 2013.

2. The third MIKTA Young Leaders’ Camp served as a good opportunity for future MIKTA leaders to enhance their understanding of MIKTA and to strengthen the bond among the private sectors of the MIKTA member states.

° In particular, the 2018 round, the third of its kind, was joined by a larger number of students than the 2017 round, and consisted of programs calling for their active participation: Among those programs were lectures by experts on the situation on the Korean Peninsula and MIKTA; a mock MIKTA foreign ministerial meeting and a meeting on possible MIKTA projects that could produce tangible results; writing minutes of a mock MIKTA agreement; and adopting the 2018 Young Leaders’ Camp (YLC) declaration. The programs offered the students an opportunity to experience multilateral diplomacy and take an active part in the event.

° In the mock MIKTA foreign ministerial meeting, the participants shared among themselves information on their home countries, such as food, tourist attractions, music, sports and other aspects of culture; the full range of economic matters, including main exports and imports as well as investment; and immigration, unemployment and other social issues. They went on to exchange views with one another about these matters, thereby enhancing mutual understanding.

° In the meeting on possible MIKTA projects that could produce tangible results, the students presented creative project ideas, including conducting internship exchange programs among the MIKTA member states; setting up a MIKTA channel on YouTube; and holding MIKTA lamplight and firework festivals.

° The YLC declaration reflects the shared understanding on the influence in the respective regions and the strategic locations of the five MIKTA countries; as well as the commitment of those major middle-power countries to stronger cooperation regarding democracy, liberal market economy, the rule of law and human rights.

3. Going forward, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to hold the Young Leaders’ Camp and increase MIKTA projects that people can take part in. It will also conduct exchanges among not only the diplomatic circles but also students, academic communities, civil societies and education sectors of the MIKTA member states in an effort to build a MIKTA ecosystem where various cooperation agenda will be pursued and developed in a virtuous circle.
