Foreign Ministry to Host International Conference on Building Global Cyberspace Peace Regime 2018

1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the National Security Research Institute and the National Intelligence Service, will host “the International Conference on Building Global Cyberspace Peace Regime 2018” in Seoul (Hotel Shilla) on November 6 and 7.

 

2. The academic event themed “joint efforts in responding to cyber security threats” will consist of five sessions, in which the participants will seek ways to jointly respond to changing cyber security threats pursuant to international law and norms; and share views on ways to implement the Republic of Korea’s foreign policy regarding cyber security.

 

Some 20 experts from home and abroad in the areas of relevant international law and norms as well as cyber security will attend the event as speakers.

 

° The first day of the Conference will feature keynote presentations by a world-renowned cyber security expert and MIT professor John Mallery and a Korea University professor Lim Jong-in on recent changes in cyber threats and key relevant issues; and discussions on developments regarding international norms in the field of cyber security as well as key issues in terms of international law and norms that could arise as a country identifies cyber threats and responds to hybrid threats.

 

° On the second day of the event, the participants will share levels of cyber threats posed to individual countries and efforts to assess relevant capabilities in order for the ROK to seek ways to respond to cyber security threats jointly with other countries; and will exchange views on ways to implement the ROK's foreign policy in the area of cyber security.

 

3. Given the nature of cyber security threats, the “International Conference on Building Global Cyberspace Peace Regime 2018,” the third of its kind, will serve as an opportunity for extensive discussions among academic experts in diverse areas from home and abroad and relevant government agencies of such major countries as the United States and the European Union, contributing to their mutual understanding on and cooperation in maintaining people’s safety, national security and international peace in cyberspace.
