1. On June 20, Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Lee Do-hoon met with the EU Ambassador and resident Ambassadors from EU member states to the Republic of Korea. In the meeting, the Special Representative shared with the foreign diplomats the outcome of the US-North Korea summit talks and the recent series of inter-Korean meetings as well as the current situation on the Korean Peninsula; and exchanged views with them on ways that the ROK and the EU can work together toward a complete denuclearization and peace on the Korean Peninsula.
° Twenty-two diplomats to the ROK -- the EU Ambassador as well as twelve resident Ambassadors, and nine acting Ambassadors and deputy mission chiefs from EU member states -- attended the meeting.
2. Special Representative Lee spoke of the ROK government’s plan to faithfully, as well as with the support of and in cooperation with the international community, implement the measures agreed upon by the leaders of the ROK and North Korea, stressing that it would work hard to further strengthen the virtuous cycle between the inter-Korean and US-North Korea relations and thereby to achieve a complete denuclearization and a lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula.
° He extended appreciation to EU member states for their support for the outcome of the inter-Korean and US-North Korea summit meetings as well as for their contribution to peace on the Korean Peninsula. He went on to ask the EU to remain highly cooperative with the ROK in that regard.
3. The mission chiefs from EU countries to the ROK mentioned that the EU were strongly supporting the ROK government’s efforts toward the denuclearization and a lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula, and would continue to render cooperation to the ROK as necessary to that end.
