1. Ambassador Kim Hyo-eun of the Republic of Korea to Senegal has been chosen as Deputy Director-General of the Green Growth Planning and Implementation Division at the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). She will serve a three-year term at the post starting from May 2018.

The GGGI, after being established in the ROK in June 2010 as a non-profit organization, became in October 2012 an international organization headquartered in Seoul pursuant to “the agreement on the establishment of the GGGI.”

- The 28-member organization is conducting 33 projects in 25 countries from 2017 to 2018.

- The body renders assistance to developing countries with their efforts to achieve green growth and respond to climate change by offering advice in the policy-making process; helping establish green funds and raise finance; and conducting capacity-building projects.

° The aforementioned post, the highest-level position in charge of cooperation with the GGGI’s projects department and the implementation of projects, is filled through an open recruitment process, the latest round of which started in October 2017.

2. Ambassador Kim, an expert in multilateral cooperation in the areas of climate change, environment and international organizations, among others, has served at such Foreign Ministry posts as the Director of the World Trade Organization Division, the Director of the Climate Change and Environment Division, and the Counsellor to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). In particular, in 2013 and 2014, she worked as the GGGI’s Director of Strategy, Policy and Communications, contributing greatly to the GGGI’s development in its early days.

3. By serving as a GGGI Deputy Director-General, Ambassador Kim is expected to help Korean women build presence at top-level positions of international organizations, and the five-year-old GGGI develop stably.

4. In cooperation with the GGGI, the ROK government, the biggest donor to the body and permanent member of its Council, will render strong assistance to developing countries with their efforts to respond to climate change and achieve a sustainable development.
