1. The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), an international organization established by the Republic of Korea that specializes in green growth, will hold the “Global Green Growth Week 2017” event in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from October 17 till 20.
° The “Global Green Growth Week” event is an international event on green growth, the first of which was held in Jeju, the ROK, in 2016. This year’s round has been organized to review and promote the GGGI’s achievements over the past five years since its launch as an international organization and to contribute to the implementation of sustainable development goals of the international community and Africa as well as of the Paris Agreement.
2. The forthcoming event, themed “Unlocking Africa’s Green Growth Potential,” will consist of 20-odd programs regarding green growth.
° The programs will take place with the support of the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the African Union (AU), the African Development Bank (ADB), the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the Green Technology Center (GTC). They are expected to bring together more than 500 people, including from governments, civil societies and academic circles of many countries as well as international organizations.

° On October 19, the sixth session of the Assembly and the tenth session of the Council of the GGGI will take place to review the progress in the implementation of its strategic plan for 2015-2020 over the past three years after the establishment of the plan; to approve a revised version of the strategic plan that will reflect the outcome of the review; and to discuss the GGGI’s way forward, including expanding partnerships and setting an action plan on financing.
3. The ROK delegation, led by the Foreign Ministry’s Director-General for Climate Change, Energy and Environmental Affairs Lee Hyung-jong, will host a seminar on “Africa Countries’ NDC (nationally determined contributions) Implementation and Cooperation with Korea” to seek ways that the ROK and Africa can work together in responding to climate change.
° Among the seminar participants will be green environment experts from home and abroad, including the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Korea International Cooperation Agency, the UNECA and the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute (KEITI).
4. The ROK delegation will also attend the sixth session of the the Assembly and the tenth session of the Council of the GGGI, during which the delegates will stress that for the GGGI to become a specialized mechanism for green growth, it will need to lay a stable financial foundation, enhance its business value, better promote itself, and induce the EU, emerging economies and other countries to become its members.
