1. On July 27, Vice Foreign Minister Cho Hyun met with Secretary of State Attila Gyorgy of the Ministry of Public Finance and State Secretary Monica Gheorghita of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, who were on a visit to the Republic of Korea accompanied by an economic delegation. In the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on economic cooperation between the ROK and Romania; and ways to boost trade and investment as well as substantive cooperation in such sectors as information and communications technology (ICT), science and technology.

° The economic delegation from Romania is on a visit to the ROK to seek ways to step up cooperation between the governments of the two countries in the wake of the launch of the new government in Romania as well as substantive cooperation in the fields of ICT, science and technology.

2. The two sides, taking note of the steady progress in friendly, economic cooperation between their two countries facilitated by the bilateral “strategic partnership” and the ROK-EU FTA concluded in 2008, agreed to work together to increase substantive cooperation in various areas in a mutually beneficial manner.

° The two sides, noting with appreciation the contribution of Korean companies to the economic development of Romania through robust operations in the country, agreed to work more closely together in diverse sectors, including ICT, healthcare, and new and renewable energy.

° In particular, State Secretary Gheorghita, calling the Romanian delegation’s visit to the ROK symbolic of the significance the Romanian government attaches to the need to increase cooperation with the ROK, mentioned that given Romania’s high rate of economic growth, cooperation between the ROK and Romania will likely increase.

3. Vice Minister Cho, speaking of the ROK government’s plan to play an active, leading role in Korean Peninsula issues in line with President Moon Jae-in’s “Berlin initiative” as a party directly concerned in those issues, asked for the Romanian government’s support for the efforts to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue. State Secretary Gheorghita responded that Romania supports the ROK government’s position and will work closely with it.
