Foreign Minister of Tanzania Mahiga to Make Official Visit to ROK

1. Foreign Minister of Tanzania Augustine Mahiga will make an official visit to the Republic of Korea from April 23 to 24.

o During his visit to the ROK, Minister Mahiga will hold the ROK-Tanzania Foreign Ministers’ meeting, meet with a board member of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), hold a meeting with businessmen, and visit the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security.

2. In his meeting with Minister Mahiga on April 24, Minister Yun Byung-se will exchange views on issues of mutual interest, including the current state of economic cooperation between the ROK and Tanzania, development cooperation, and the situations on the Korean Peninsula and in Africa. The two sides will also discuss the opening of a diplomatic mission in the ROK and other ways to enhance substantive cooperation between the two countries, which is deepening and expanding in a range of areas, with this year marking the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

3. The upcoming official visit by Minister Mahiga is expected to help maintain the momentum for high-level exchanges between the two countries, which has been increasing recently, and to serve as an opportunity to discuss in depth ways to strengthen cooperation in a range of areas, including expanding bilateral trade and investment, increasing Korean companies’ participation in infrastructure projects in Tanzania, and cooperating on North Korea.

4. Tanzania, which considers the ROK a model for Tanzania’s economic development, is willing to expand cooperation with the ROK in various areas, including politics, economy and culture. Minister Mahiga’s forthcoming visit to the ROK will mark the Minister’s first visit to an Asian country since his inauguration in December, 2015, and he will visit only the ROK on this tour. This demonstrates the cooperative relations between the ROK and Tanzania that have been strengthened.
