Former Ambassador for Human Rights Lee Jung-Hoon Appointed as Ambassador-at-large on North Korean Human Rights

1. On September 13, former Ambassador for Human Rights and professor at Yonsei University Graduate School of International Studies Lee Jung-Hoon was appointed to the post of Ambassador-at-large on North Korean Human Rights, which had been created pursuant to the Republic of Korea’s North Korean human rights act.

2. Ambassador Lee excellently carried out human rights diplomacy during his three-year tenure as Ambassador for Human Rights after being appointed to the post on August 1, 2013. In particular, he used his rich expertise, knowledge in international affairs and broad human network to contribute to international discussions on North Korean human rights on such occasions as the UN’s international conferences, private seminars and human rights-related events.

3. Going forward, the Ambassador-at-large on North Korean Human Rights will support the ROK government’s diplomatic efforts on the bilateral and multilateral levels to promote North Korean human rights. He will also seek to raise international awareness on efforts to promote North Korean human rights on various occasions overseas, including seminars and briefings.
