1. The Foreign Ministry concluded with Kumho Asiana Group on June 28 a cooperation arrangement that calls for using charter flights to promptly take nationals of the Republic of Korea to safe places in the event of earthquakes, terrorist attacks and other large-scale disasters overseas.

2. The arrangement was concluded as part of the Foreign Ministry’s efforts to enhance its capacity to better protect the overseas Koreans in huge crises overseas at a time when an annual 19 million ROK nationals head overseas, there are some 7.2 million ethnic Koreans abroad, and 2.5 million ROK nationals are residing in foreign countries.

3. The Foreign Ministry has been making efforts to provide protection services to overseas Koreans in a way that is creative and meets their needs. Going forward, it will further step up relevant efforts to better ensure the safety of overseas Koreans.
