1. The Foreign Ministry will host in Seoul on June 21 a meeting on cooperation in Northeast Asia on disaster management, bringing together officials from disaster-related government agencies and the foreign ministries of six countries in the region -- the Republic of Korea, Japan, China, the US, Mongolia and Russia.

° The meeting will come in conjunction with the fourth ROK-Japan-China Table-Top Exercise, which will take place in Seoul on June 22.

2. The forthcoming meeting will cover specific ways for the Northeast Asian countries to work together on disaster management, a main area of cooperation under the ROK government’s Northeast Asia Peace and Cooperation Initiative. On the sidelines of the meeting, the delegates from the participating countries, together with those from the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR), will hold a workshop themed “ways for subregional cooperation in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.”

3. The meeting is expected to serve as an opportunity to reaffirm the shared view of the Northeast Asian countries on the need for subregional cooperation on disaster management and to lay an institutional foundation for cooperation in Northeast Asia on disaster management.
