1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will host a camp for the fourth batch of the “global green growth supporters” at the Foreign Ministry in Seoul and the Chungho Human Resources Development Institute in Hwaseong in Gyeonggi Province from August 11 through 13.

* The launching ceremony of the fourth batch of the “global green growth supporters” will take place at the Foreign Ministry on August 11.

2. The “global green growth supporters,” whose fourth batch will be launched this year since the group was first formed in 2012, have been created to nurture experts in the global environment field and raise people’s interest in sustainable development. The fourth batch of the supporters consists of about 100 undergraduates and graduates from domestic and foreign universities.

3. At the upcoming camp, participating students will take the time to better understand environment and green growth through lectures on major global issues, including climate change, sustainable development, green growth, and water, as well as a mock international conference, a visit to the Sihwa Lake Tidal Power Station, and other activities.

4. In his welcoming remarks at the launching ceremony, Deputy Minister for Economic Affairs Lee Tae-ho of the Foreign Ministry will stress that amid the international community’s efforts to adopt a new set of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and reach an agreement on climate change response, the ROK government is taking the lead in related discussions in order to establish “green growth” as the global trend in sustainable development. He will also ask the supporters, who are future leaders, to be proactive in understanding and leading the global trends.

5. A certificate of the completion of the global green growth supporters programs from the Foreign Minister will be given to students who participate in the entire programs of the camp for three days, including lectures, seminars and field trips to environment-related sites, and submit dissertations or policy proposals on green growth and climate change response by October 30.

o The authors of the very best dissertations, to be selected through screening process, will receive the Foreign Minister’s Award and be given an opportunity to attend international meetings on green growth, energy and environment.

6. The global green growth supporters programs are expected to provide undergraduates and graduates willing to work for international organizations with a good opportunity to accumulate knowledge and experience in major global issues, including green growth, climate change and sustainable development.
