Fourth Lee Tae-seok Award to be Presented to Professor Choi Won-gyu for Volunteer Medical Services in Mongolia

1. The Foreign Ministry will hold the fourth Lee Tae-seok Award ceremony at the Ministry on December 8, chaired by Second Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yul. At the ceremony, this year’s Award will be presented to professor Choi Won-gyu at Mongolia’s National University of Medical Sciences, who is widely known for his voluntary medical services in the country.

2. Professor Choi, who graduated from Yonsei University College of Medicine in 1992, was dispatched to Mongolia in 1997 as an international cooperative doctor of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) to provide voluntary medical services in the country. After emigrating to Mongolia in 2005, he has since worked as a professor at the National University of Medical Sciences and head of Yonsei Friendship Hospital in Ulan Bator.

3. The Lee Tae-seok Award, an award established in 2011 to honor the sacrifice and contributions of the late Father Lee Tae-seok and to highlight the importance of volunteer work, albeit its short history of only four years, is becoming a prestigious award in the field of voluntary medical services.
