ROK-Nigeria Joint Commission to Hold its 5th Meeting

1. The fifth meeting of the Joint Commission between the Republic of Korea and Nigeria will take place at the former’s Foreign Ministry on July 7, with First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yong and Viola Onwuliri, Minister of State 1, Foreign Affairs, leading their respective delegations.

2. In the upcoming meeting, the two sides will discuss bilateral issues in a wide range of sectors, including politics, energy, resources, infrastructure, trade, investment, national defense, consular affairs and development cooperation.

ο In particular, on the occasion, the two sides will exchange a wide range of views on substantive issues, such as ways to settle Korea National Oil Corporation’s dispute of over the deep sea oil exploration projects (OPL321/323) in Nigeria and the issue of bringing into force the bilateral Agreement for the Avoidance of Double Taxation. The two countries will continue to seek progress on such issues.

3. In addition, at the meeting, the ROK will seek ways to expand substantive cooperation with Nigeria, an economic powerhouse in Africa. In this light, the meeting is expected to contribute to the ROK’s efforts to strengthen its diplomacy with Africa and promote its economic and trade ties with the continent.
