1. Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se will meet with President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Tadateru Konoé, who is also President of the Japanese Red Cross Society, on July 12.
2. During the meeting, the two sides will evaluate the IFRC’s humanitarian assistance activities, examine the ROK government’s humanitarian assistance activities, and discuss ways to expand and deepen the ROK-IFRC cooperation in humanitarian assistance and development and the IFRC’s humanitarian assistance activities in North Korea.
3. The IFRC, a federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies of each country, focuses on disaster relief activities in times of natural disasters around the world. Among the federation’s tasks are giving emergency relief to displaced people during disasters and strengthening the capacity of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies of each country.
4. After concluding a memorandum of understanding on development cooperation among the Foreign Ministry, the IFRC and the Korean Red Cross in June, 2012, the ROK has increased cooperation in disaster preparedness, recovery and development. The ROK will continue to boost cooperation with the IFRC, including through the ROK-IFRC cooperation projects.
