ROK and the Caribbean to Hold the 2nd High-Level Forum

1. At the invitation of Foreign Minister Kim Sung-Hwan, ministerial-level officials of 12 Caribbean countries, such as the Deputy Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, and the Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM) will visit the Republic of Korea on July 29-August 2 to attend the 2nd ROK-Caribbean High-Level Forum to be hosted by the Foreign Ministry on July 31.

º The “CARICOM Day” event will take place at the Yeosu Expo on July 30, with the delegates from the Caribbean countries in attendance.

2. In the 2nd ROK-Caribbean High-Level Forum, the participants will discuss ways to work together in areas with great potential for cooperation, including e-government, the management of maritime environment and new and renewable energy. Officials from the ROK’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ministry of Public Administration and Security, Ministry of Knowledge Economy, and Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs will explain the ROK’s relevant policies, exchange views with other participants on their countries’ policies, and discuss ways to bolster substantive cooperation between the two regions.

3. On the sidelines of the Forum, Foreign Minister Kim will meet bilaterally with the Deputy Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Foreign Ministers of Saint Lucia, Belize and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and the Secretary-General of CARICOM to discuss ways to work together with the countries as well as CARICOM.
