1. Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan called in Vietnamese Ambassador to Korea Toan on July 16 to
extend deep condolences over the death of the Vietnamese woman, Thach Thi Hoang Ngoac, and
deliver consolation money to her family.
2. Minister Yu explained that relevant government agencies will sternly address the incident according
to the law, while measures, such as preparation of relevant laws, will be taken to prevent recurrence of
such incidents. Expressing appreciation on behalf of the Vietnamese government and people, Ambassador
Toan expected the incident not to affect Korea-Vietnam ties.
3. The Foreign Ministry employees and their spouses voluntarily raised the aforementioned consolation
money in the hope that such unfortunate incidents will not recur.
4. The Foreign Ministry plans to hold consultations with related government agencies and continue other
efforts to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
