1. The 7th Korea-Bolivia Joint Committee Meeting was held in the Bolivian capital of La Paz on July 15
with Choo Jong-youn, MOFAT’s Director-General for Latin American and Caribbean Affairs, and Regina
Hennings, the Bolivian Foreign Ministry’s Acting Director-General for Bilateral Relations, as the top
delegates of the two countries.
2. In the latest Joint Committee Meeting, the two sides reviewed progress in cooperation in a wide range
of fields, including government affairs, trade, resources, and development, as well as on the international
stage; and discussed in depth ways to further bolster cooperation.
In the Meeting,
ο After noting with satisfaction Korea and Bolivia growing closer through increased high-level officials’
exchange since the reestablishment of the Korean Embassy in Bolivia in 2008, the two sides discussed
ways to increase the volume of two-way trade.
ο The Korean delegation requested the Bolivian government’s interest in and support for Korean firms
taking part in mineral resources development in the country.
- The Bolivian government, in particular, expressed intention to choose Korean firms as preferred
partners for the development of lithium, of which Bolivia ranks 1st in reserves.
- Development assistance projects for Bolivia, such as in public health, education, and administrative
system, will continue.
3. Prior to the Joint Committee Meeting, Director-General Choo paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister
David Choquehuanca and Vice Foreign Minister Monica Soriano to exchange views on ways to promote
cooperation between Korea and Bolivia.
