
1. Minister Song Min-soon had talks over luncheon with the Deputy
Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates(UAE) Hamdan bin Zayed
Al-Nahyan at his official residence on September 11. They
discussed ways to promote cooperation in areas such as
investment, development of alternative energy, defense industry,
regional issues, and the Korean corporations’ business activities in
the UAE.
2. Minister Song acknowledged that the ROK-UAE relations are
stronger than ever, through consistent implementation of the
‘Comprehensive Economic Cooperation between Korea and the
UAE,’ which was agreed between the two nations when President
Roh Moo-hyun paid a visit to the UAE in May, 2006. In particular,
Minister Song asked for the Deputy Prime Minister’s special attention and support for having the Korean
corporations participate in major projects of the UAE.
3. Deputy Prime Minister Hamdan said that UAE leaders including President Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan
and the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan have vast interest in strengthening collaborative
ties with Korea, and that the UAE would like to expand bilateral cooperation in all areas, particularly in
investment between Korean and the UAE corporations.
4. Minister Song explained the need for establishing an organization for the increase of Korea-Middle
East cooperation, as well as for further understanding of the Islamic nations. Deputy Prime Minister
Hamdan also stressed the importance of promoting exchanges and cooperation between Korea and the
Islamic nations.
