1. On Thursday, May 15, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT) will host a third annual
“Information Session on Entry into the Chinese Market.” Since 2001, MOFAT has held an annual information
session to assist the entry of Korean businesses into the Chinese market, which has emerged as the
second largest export destination for Korea behind the U.S. market.
2. MOFAT has invited personnel responsible for business service operations from the Chinese Embassy in
Seoul, as well as other China experts to the meeting. Topics that will be addressed at the session include
major economic policy trends of the new Chinese administration, prospects for Korea-China economic
relations, tactics for investing in the Chinese technology market, and developments in Chinese intellectual
property law since accession to the WTO.
3. Since its entry into the WTO in late 2001, China has begun efforts to construct a generalized trade system
adhering to international law and customary practices. Despite changes made in its overall trade structure,
however, China still maintains a unique business culture, which in several aspects remains distinct from the
capitalistic market economy. This session will give Korean businesses an opportunity to gain useful
information on entering the Chinese market.
4. In addition, the information session will supplement “Cyber Corporate Services” being offered online by
MOFAT and Korean embassies and consulates worldwide to support domestic businesses’ investment
decisions in overseas markets.
