1. Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Han Seung-soo will visit the United Kingdom, Geneva and France
between July 1-7, 2001. During his visit to the United Kingdom and France, Minister Han will hold the Foreign
Ministers' Talks with his counterpart Secretary of State for Foreign and Common Affairs of the United
Kingdom Jack Straw on July 3, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of France Hubert Vedrine on July 6, respectively.
2. Taking these opportunities, he will secure continued cooperation by the United Kingdom and France for
the process of reconciliaton and cooperation on the Korean Peninsula, and exchange views with the two
ministers on areas of economy, trade and culture, as well as ways to promote bilateral relations and
regional situations. Minister Han will also meet with a wide range of leading figures in political, economic
and academic circles of the United Kingdom and France, and explain the ROK's policy of reconciliation and
cooperation toward North Korea and ask them to support the expansion of economic exchange and
cooperation such as more investment into Korea. He will also preside over the Meeting of Heads of
Overseas Missions in the EU Region for 2001 in Paris.
3. While visiting Geneva and Paris, Minister Han will meet with a number of high-ranking officials of UN-
related international organizations including UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and Secretary
Generals of UNESCO and UNCTAD, and engage in discussions on the UN related issues before assuming
of his duty as President of the 56th UN General Assembly. In addition, he will meet with Secretary Generals
of WTO and OECD, to discuss ways to enhance multilateral cooperation in areas of economy and trade
such as the launching of the New Round.
