Negotiations on the Korea-Russia Extradition Treaty

1. The Negotiations between the Government of the Republic of Korea and the Government of the Russian 
Federation for the conclusion of the Korea-Russia Extradition Treaty will be held in Moscow from May 23 to 
24, 2002.  The ROK government will dispatch a delegation consisted of officials from the Ministry of Foreign 
Affairs and Trade, and the Ministry of Justice, headed by Director of the MOFAT Treaties Division I Park Dong-
sil.  The Russian delegation will include officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Justice, 
headed by Deputy Head of the Department of foreign Relations of the Ministry of Justice Aleksandr Rodionov.

 
2. The 1st and 2nd Negotiations were held in Moscow in July 2000, and in Seoul in May 2001, respectively.

 
3. In efforts to efficiently prevent and punish transnational crimes and realize legal justice on criminal issues, 
the ROK government has concluded extradition treaties with 16 countries, including the United States, China, 
Japan, Australia and Canada.  The ROK government is also in the process of negotiating with other major 
countries for the conclusion of extradition treaties.
