1. Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit of Jordan will pay a visit to Korea from August 30 to 31, after attending the
14th ILO Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting in Busan.
2. Prime Minister Bakhit will be the first prime minister of Jordan to visit Korea since the establishment of
diplomatic ties between the ROK and Jordan in 1962. During the ILO Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting in
Busan, he will pay a courtesy call on President Roh Moo-hyun, meet with Prime Minister Han Myeong-sook
in Seoul, and attend the signing ceremony of the MOU on vocational training assistance between Minister of
Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ban Ki-moon and Minister of Labor, Bassel Salem. Prime Minister Bakhit will also
have a luncheon meeting with Honorary Consul General of Jordan (Chairman of Hyundai Marine & Fire
Insurance Co. Ltd., Jung Mong-yoon), visit major industrial and cultural sites of Korea and attend a dinner
meeting with representatives of the Korean business sector.
3. King Abdullah II of Jordan played many roles as a mediator of peace in the Middle East region, and
proposed a 10-year vision for the national development of Jordan by announcing the National Agenda on
reforms on May 11. The cooperative ties between the ROK and Jordan are expected to be further expanded
in the process of Jordan's reform and opening-up by integrating the ROK's technology and development
experiences.
