1. First Vice Foreign Minister Lim Sung-nam, together with his Ugandan counterpart James Mugume, will hold the first Republic of Korea-Uganda high-level policy consultation in Seoul on October 17. In the meeting, the two sides will discuss in depth the bilateral relations; ways to step up cooperation on economy, development, national defense and police affairs; the North Korean nuclear issue and the situation in Northeast Asia; and ways to work together on the international stage.
2. The inaugural ROK-Uganda policy consultation will come pursuant to the memorandum of understanding for cooperation between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries, which was signed during the summit talks between President Park Geun-hye and President Musevini during the former President’s state visit to Uganda in May. In the forthcoming meeting, the two countries will discuss specific ways to fulfill the vision of cooperation in diverse sectors, as proposed at the summit talks in May.
3. Uganda being a strong supporter for the ROK’s position on the North Korean nuclear issue, the ROK side will ask Uganda to make more efforts to for North Korea to abandon its nuclear ambitions.
4. The upcoming ROK-Uganda high-level policy consultation is expected to serve as an opportunity to move the bilateral partnership substantially forward and to scrutinize the progress in the implementation in the follow-up on the outcome of President Park’s visit to Uganda in May.
