Minister of Foreign Affairs Lays Wreath at Australian National Korean War Memorial and at Tomb of Unknown Australian Soldier on April 29




Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yul, who was in Australia to attend the sixth ROK-Australia Foreign and Defense Ministers’ (2+2) Meeting on May 1, laid a wreath at the Australian National Korean War Memorial and the Tomb of the Unknown Australian Soldier in the Australian War Memorial in Canberra on the morning of April 29 in his first engagement after arriving in the country.



Australia was the second nation after the U.S. to commit troops to the Korean War. By offering the wreath, Minister Cho expressed his respect for the noble dedication as well as the courage and sacrifice of the 17,164 Australian soldiers who fought for freedom and democracy in the Republic of Korea.



※ Total 17,164 soldiers (Army, Navy, Air Force) served, of which 340 died, 1,216 were wounded, and 30 became prisoners of war.
