2023 Korea-Pacific Islands Summit Preparatory Office Holds its Launching Ceremony




1. The launching ceremony of the “2023 Korea-Pacific Islands Summit Preparatory Office“ was held at 10:30 am, February 22, in the gallery zone on the 1st floor of Korean Re building located in Jongno-gu. It was attended by the Foreign Minister, a Vice-Mayor of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the Executive Director of the Preparatory Office, Ambassadors to Korea from relevant countries, and officials of related organizations. 




※ Key Participants : Park Jin (Foreign Minister of Korea), Kim Eui-seung (Vice-Mayor of the Seoul Metropolitan Government), Choi Youngsam (Deputy Foreign Minister and Executive Director of the 2023 Korea-Pacific Islands Summit Preparatory Office), Tregar Albon Ishoda (Ambassador of the Republic of the Marshall Islands to Korea), Catherine Raper (Australian Ambassador to Korea), Philippe Lefort (French Ambassador to Korea), Helen Aitsi (Charge d’Affaires at the Papua New Guinea Embassy in Korea), Jeongmin Park (Charge d’Affaires at the New Zealand Embassy in Korea), Park Gi-jun  (Director General for Foreign Affairs and National Security Policy in the Office for Government Policy Coordination), Lee Tae-won  (Director of the Foreign Cooperation Division of the Bid Committee for World EXPO 2030 Busan), etc. 




2. Foreign Minister Park Jin mentioned that the Summit, the first between Korea and the Pacific island countries and the first multilateral summit of the current Korean government, will be a watershed in implementing its Indo-Pacific Strategy. He went on to ask the Ambassadors of the relevant countries, the Seoul Metropolitan Government and other related Korean government agencies, and the Preparatory Office to work together to achieve their desired outcome -- a remarkable advance in the Korea-Pacific islands relationship.
