Remarks by President Moon Jae-in at Memorial Site for Korean and Hungarian Victims of 2019 Boat Sinking in Budapest

(Unofficial Translation)

Thank you. I am grateful to the Hungarian Government for having made the utmost search and rescue efforts for those passengers missing after their sightseeing boat sank. Many Hungarians showed concern for their safety as well and mourned the victims. Moreover, I am grateful to those who have even gone so far as to create this permanent memorial site for them.

At that time, not only Korean citizens but two Hungarians lost their lives, and I would like to remember them as well and express my condolences and consolation. The Korean people will never forget how the Hungarian Government provided a space for remembrance and how the Hungarian people have come together to honor the victims at every anniversary over the past two years. This will lead to long-lasting friendship between the peoples of our two countries going forward.
