1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will take part in the “15th Jeju Forum for Peace & Prosperity (Jeju Forum)” to be held on Jeju Island from November 5 to 7 as a sponsoring organization.
o Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Lee Taeho will attend “Ambassadors Roundtable” on November 6 and deliver a keynote speech on the Republic of Korea’s experience in COVID-19 response as well as the need for international solidarity and cooperation to overcome COVID-19. In his keynote speech at the “Korea-Middle East Cooperation Forum,” Vice Minister Lee will present a vision for ROK-Middle East cooperation in the post-COVID-19 era.
o In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will organize sessions on key diplomatic issues including cybersecurity, the Green New Deal, COVID-19, and regional cooperation between the ROK and the Middle East and between the ROK and ASEAN. During the sessions, Foreign Ministry officials, domestic and foreign scholars, and civilian experts will have a meaningful exchange of views on the theme of each session.
2. The Jeju Forum which has reached the 15th one this year since its creation in 2001 has served as a forum for discussions on multilateral cooperation in the region with the aim of seeking peace and co-prosperity in East Asia.
o This year’s forum to be held in a hybrid format (both online and offline) due to the COVID-19 pandemic will bring together incumbent and former high-level officials and scholars including former U.S. President Bill Clinton, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. The participants will have various discussions on the theme “Reinventing Multilateral Cooperation: Pandemic and Humane Security.”
