1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United States Department of State co-hosted the 2nd ROK-U.S. meeting on women’s economic empowerment in a virtual format on the morning of September 15.
o The meeting was attended by officials from the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Korea, and the ROK’s government agencies, including the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, as well as women entrepreneurs from the ROK and the U.S.
2. The meeting was held under the theme of economic empowerment of women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields of the two countries, as a follow-up to the 4th ROK-U.S. Senior Economic Dialogue (SED) held in November 2019 at which the Action Plan on R.O.K-US Partnership on Women’s Economic Empowerment was adopted.
3. The participants assessed that this meeting served as a useful opportunity to share companies’ best practices of women’s empowerment in STEM fields, discuss concrete cooperative projects between the ROK and the U.S., and promote networking among women entrepreneurs.
4. Drawing upon various opinions shared in this meeting, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will seek cooperative projects as part of efforts to implement the Action Plan on R.O.K-US Partnership on Women’s Economic Empowerment and take the relevant discussions into account at this year’s SED (schedule yet to be determined).
