1. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Choi Jong Kun spoke over the phone with Deputy Secretary of State of the United States Stephen Biegun on the morning of September 2.

o In the telephone conversation, which was Vice Minister Choi’s first phone conversation with a foreign counterpart since his inauguration, Deputy Secretary Biegun congratulated Vice Minister Choi on his inauguration and expressed hope that the Republic of Korea and the U.S. would continue working closely together for continued development of the ROK-U.S. alliance.

o Vice Minister Choi commended the accomplishments of both governments for the last three years, and suggested that the two countries continue transparent communication in order to deal with bilateral issues in a stable manner.

2. Vice Minister Choi and Deputy Secretary Biegun agreed to meet as early as possible and discuss the overall ROK-U.S. relations and regional affairs.
