1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will hold the 10th Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) Cyber Secretariat Workshop on August 13 in a video format for the first time since the launch of the Cyber Secretariat due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
° Delegates of the 36 member states of FEALAC as well as regional experts will attend the Workshop and engage in communication in an effort to continue cooperation and exchanges among the member states even amid the rapid spread of COVID-19.
2. At the Workshop, which comes amid the continued social and economic slowdowns across the world, the delegates from the member countries will discuss the theme of “the Global Socio-economic Prospects and Measures to Strengthen FEALAC Cooperation under COVID-19.”
° The Workshop will also bring together experts from international organizations of the two regions, including the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO) as well as the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) of the United Nations, who will discuss “social and economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, prospects for recovery, and long-term solutions.”
3. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue efforts to lead the development of FEALAC as well as the promotion of cooperation among the member states and the friendly relations between the Republic of Korea and Latin America in line with the diplomatic diversification policy of the ROK government.
° Since the launch of FEALAC in 1999, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has played an active role in and contributed to enhancing connectivity between East Asia and Latin America, including by serving as a Regional Coordinator and a Chair of Working Groups, hosting the Cyber Secretariat, contributing to the FEALAC Multi-Donor Trust Fund, and working as a Chair of the Steering Committee of the Trust Fund.
