1. An opening ceremony of the Warsaw Process Working Group on Cybersecurity, co-hosted by the Republic of Korea (ROK), the United States (U.S.) and the Republic of Poland, was held at the Four Seasons Hotel, Seoul, on October 8, bringing together about 120 government officials and experts from about 50 countries.
2. In her opening remarks, Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Kyung-wha underscored the need to strengthen the implementation of international norms and confidence-building measures to promote responsible state behavior in cyberspace in response to global cyber threats as well as the need to support developing countries to build cybersecurity capacities.
3. In their respective congratulatory remarks, Minister Jacek Czaputowicz of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Cyber and International Communications and Information Policy Robert Strayer highlighted the importance of the Working Group and suggested stepping up international cooperation in response to cyber threats.
4. The meeting, one of the seven working groups established as follow-up measures agreed upon at the 1st Ministerial Meeting on Peace and Security in the Middle East (the Warsaw Process) which took place in Warsaw this February, aims to strengthen international cooperation in cybersecurity among participant countries from diverse regions including Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and North and South America.
