[Environment] Minister of Foreign Affairs Engages in Outreach Activities to Promote P4G Summit on Occasion of Munich Security Conference

1. On the occasion of the 56th Munich Security Conference held in Munich from February 14 to 15, Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang, Kyung-wha had bilateral meetings with her counterparts from Canada, the Republic of Finland, the Kingdom of Norway, the Kingdom of Denmark, and the Kingdom of Spain, and stressed the importance of the P4G Summit to be held in the Republic of Korea in late June this year and asked for the participation of high-level delegates.

 

o The P4G Summit will bring together leaders, ministerial-level officials and key global business leaders of not only the P4G member countries, but also the members of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and other major countries in the climate and environment areas.

 

2. Minister Kang explained that with ten years left until the 2030 target for implementing the Paris Agreement and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the year 2020 is an important moment to deliver concrete results, and stressed the need for strengthened international cooperation through the P4G Summit.

 

o Minister Kang emphasized that the ROK will make preparations for the P4G Summit to serve as a stepping stone for the success of the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP26) to be held in Glasgow in November, as well as a milestone towards a decade of decarbonization.

 

3. In order to increase countries’ interest and willingness to participate in the P4G Summit, the ROK government will continue to exert active efforts for the participation of key personnel.
