Korea-U.S. Consultation on Mar. 19

1. Amb. Noh Kyu-duk, Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, had a consultation on North Korea issues with Amb. Sung Kim, U.S. Acting Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, on the morning of March 19.

 

2. In this meeting, which was held following the ROK-U.S. foreign ministerial meeting (on March 17) and 5th ROK-U.S. Foreign and Defense Ministers’ Meeting (on March 18), the two sides appreciated continued close cooperation and coordination between the two countries during the ongoing U.S. review on North Korea policy, and exchanged in-depth views on ways for the two countries to work together to make progress in achieving complete denuclearization and establishment of permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula based on a fully coordinated strategy between the ROK and the United States.

 

3. The two sides agreed to continue intensive consultations at each level between the two countries, including in the process of the U.S. North Korea policy review.

 

4. On the same day, First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Choi Jong Kun met with Acting Assistant Secretary Kim, and discussed Korea-U.S. bilateral relations as well as a broad range of regional and global issues, including the recent situation in Myanmar and issues related to Iran.
