The 1st Open Sustainable Development Goals Forum

1. Co-hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Korea SDGs Network, the first Open Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Forum was held in Seoul on May 30, 2019. Aligned with the theme of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2019, the forum explored how to empower people and ensure inclusiveness and equality through the efforts to implement the SDGs.
2. Through the opening remarks, Mr. Jeong-sik Kang(delivered by Ms. Kyung-ah Lee), Deputy Director-General for Development Cooperation, emphasized the importance of inclusive multi-stakeholder partnerships to achieve the SDGs. Ms. Ok Joo Song, Member of the National Assembly, reaffirmed her commitment to have the Sustainable Development Act ratified in her congratulatory remarks.
3. Participants of the forum — from the government, civil society, academia, and the private sector — reviewed the global trends of the SDGs and Korea’s implementation of the SDGs with a focus on SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
