Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in San Francisco

The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in San Francisco has the jurisdiction of States of Northern California (48 counties), Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming, where more than 280,000 overseas Koreans are active in various fields including high technology, law, medicine, and arts. Particularly, San Francisco has been the very beginning point of the history of settlement in the mainland of the United States by Korean Americans who first arrived at Hawaii around 120 years ago and later moved to San Francisco.

Koreans within the jurisdiction distinguish themselves in the global hub of innovation. By doing so, they promote rights and interests of the Korean community and help Korean high tech companies make inroads into US markets. The Consulate General is committed to secure safety and rights of overseas Koreans as well as to engage their next generations to guarantee sustainable development of the Korean American community.

San Francisco Bay Area houses headquarters of global tech companies such as Apple, Google, and Meta. As of 2022, the GDP of the Bay Area amounts to approximately USD 1.3 trillion, as significant portion of total GDP of California (USD 3.59 trillion), remaining the fastest growing area in the United States with the annual growth rate of 4.8%.

Around 37% of overseas Korean start-ups operate in North America, of which around a half are working in Silicon Valley. Silicon Valley represents leading technological game changers for human future based on artificial intelligence, digital and quantum technologies, and bio-technology. Being economy-oriented, the Consulate General will materialize development of the Korea-US Science and Technology Alliance not only by promoting Korean companies and goods in US markets, but also by actively fostering tech cooperation between two countries.
