Good afternoon. Let
me start today’s briefing.
The President attended a number of events yesterday, among which I will speak
briefly about his meeting with his U.S. counterpart.
Following their meeting
in London, the Presidents of the Republic of Korea and the United States met at
the Global Fund Seventh Replenishment Conference as well as the reception hosted by
President and Dr. Joe Biden in New York on Wednesday, September 21.
The two Presidents
discussed the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), efforts to stabilize the financial
market and extended deterrence.
With regard to the
U.S. IRA, President Yoon delivered Korean companies’ concerns and asked for
President Biden’s support to ensure that no discrimination befalls on the
Korean companies in the course of implementing the law.
President Biden said
that he is well aware of Korea’s concerns and that the two countries shall continue
serious consultations on that matter.
The two Presidents
also agreed to work closely together to stabilize the financial market as
necessary amid the growing instability of the global economy.
In addition, the two
Presidents appreciated the ongoing consultations between the two countries on extended
deterrence, and agreed to bolster coordination to deter North Korean threats and seek
joint responses to Pyongyang’s provocation.
(A question-and-answer session followed.)
