Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.
First, the new government has been launched today. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will exert its best efforts to fully implement the new government's foreign policy vision of the Republic of Korea being a global pivotal state that contributes to freedom, peace, and prosperity.
The Foreign Ministry will also protect Korea's national interests, expand its role in the international community, and engage in diplomacy that raises Korea’s international status, while safeguarding the lives and safety of the people.
Next, I will read the MOFA Spokesperson’s commentary on the terrorist attack in the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt.
The government of the Republic of Korea expresses deep concern over the terrorist attack that occurred in the northern Sinai Peninsula on May 7 (local time) and extends its deepest condolences and sympathy to the victims and their bereaved families as well as the people and the government of Egypt.
Reaffirming its firm position that terrorism cannot be justified under any circumstances, the government of the Republic of Korea has been and remains committed to taking an active part in the efforts of the international community, including the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO), with a view to establishing peace and stability in the region.
