The government of the Republic of Korea has decided to provide Colombia with USD 1 million in humanitarian assistance through an international organization operating on the ground, in order to support the rapid response to and facilitate an early recovery from the recent devastating earthquake that struck the country on Monday, August 10, causing a loss of lives and damage to properties.

※ According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA)’s 2026 Global Humanitarian Overview, even prior to the earthquake, 6.9 million people in Colombia – some 18 percent of the total population – were already in need of humanitarian assistance, owing to conflict, natural disasters driven by climate change, and the influx of refugees and migrants.

The government of the Republic of Korea hopes that this assistance will contribute to a swift recovery of the affected areas and to an early restoration of normalcy to the daily lives of affected communities.
