– ROK will continue contributing to UN’s administrative and budgetary affairs as responsible global power –

At the meeting of the United Nations General Assembly Fifth Committee held in New York on November 7 (local time), Mr. Lee Min-hong of the Republic of Korea was re-elected by acclamation as a member of the UN Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions (ACABQ) for the 2026–2028 term.

The ACABQ is a key, 21-member advisory body of the United Nations. It examines the budget proposals as well as administrative and human resources policies submitted by the UN Secretariat to the General Assembly and makes relevant recommendations to the General Assembly. In particular, drawing on the expertise of its members, the committee plays a pivotal role in ensuring the United Nation’s financial soundness and administrative transparency during the budget review process.

Following its first-ever election to the ACABQ for the 2023–2025 term, the ROK secured a second term in the recent election with broad support from UN member states.

This result reflects the recognition and trust of UN member states in the ROK’s constructive engagement in overall UN management and its accumulated expertise in administration and budgetary matters.

Through its activities as a member of the ACABQ, the ROK government will contribute to the UN’s efforts to reform and improve its administrative and budgetary system, including ensuring sound financial management, enhancing transparency in administrative systems and promoting efficiency in organizational management. By doing so, the ROK will further strengthen its responsible contribution to the international community.
