Republic of Korea Elected to Executive Board of United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)

1. The Republic of Korea was elected to serve as a member of the Executive Board of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) for the 2025-27 term at the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) meeting on April 9. This marks the tenth time for Korea to serve on the Executive Board since the establishment of UNICEF in 1946.


2. The UNICEF Executive Board, which consists of 36 members, is the governing body of UNICEF, providing intergovernmental support and oversight to the organization. Thirteen countries including France, Germany and India were elected to the Executive Board at this UN ECOSOC meeting.


3. As a member of the UNICEF Executive Board, the government of the Republic of Korea will continue to promote the protection, health, and education of children by actively participating in discussions within UNICEF. Furthermore, the government will also be committed to further developing its partnership with UNICEF.
