1. The government of Cambodia appointed Seoul High Court Judge Baik Kang-jin as International Judge of the Pre-Trial Chamber of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC).

o The ECCC was established in 2005 under a bilateral agreement between the UN and Cambodia to punish perpetrators of genocide and other serious crimes committed during the Khmer Rouge regime (April 1975 - January 1979). The ECCC is the only UN-backed special court in Asia.

2. The appointment of Judge Baik Kang-jin as International Judge of the ECCC comes after Judge of the International Criminal Court Chung Chang-ho served as International Judge at the ECCC until February 2015. This is expected to help the ROK continue to contribute to promoting and achieving international criminal justice and the rule of law through international courts.
