2. “Quiz on Korea” is a public diplomacy program conducted by the Foreign Ministry, which is designed to enhance foreigners' interest in and the international image of the ROK. Preliminary quiz contests on the ROK are held in foreign countries and the preliminary winners are invited to the ROK to compete in the final round. In the third “Quiz on Korea” in 2014, some 1,500 people in 21 countries participated in heated preliminary contests, which were covered by many local media outlets.

° In particular, in Mongolia, the ROK Embassy in the country and Ulaanbaatar Broadcasting System (UBS) co-produced and aired a total of eleven preliminary contests, which served as an opportunity to enhance interest in and understanding of the ROK in Mongolia.

3. The 21 preliminary winners from 21 countries will make a four-day visit to the ROK from September 3 through 6. During the visit, they will have opportunities to experience Korean culture first-hand by visiting the Korean Folk Village, making kimchi and trying ssireum, traditional Korean wrestling. On September 5, they will compete in the final round of “Quiz on Korea.”

4. The final round of the third “Quiz on Korea” will be broadcast on KBS 1TV at 10:00-12:00, September 9, as a special program for the Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) holidays. It will also be aired in 100 countries around the world by KBS World.

5. The Foreign Ministry expects that the “Quiz on Korea” event will serve as a genuine two-way festivity for youths with shared interest in the ROK to build friendship and share their own cultures with one another. Furthermore, it expects the participants to play a role in promoting the ROK back home. “Quiz on Korea” co-hosted by the Foreign Ministry and KBS will establish itself as the ROK’s flagship event for public diplomacy and global quiz show.
