1. A ceremony to celebrate the completion of the first phase of a project to build a Korea Town and the creation of Avenida Seúl took place in Guatemala City, the capital of Guatemala, on May 13.
2. The ROK Embassy in Guatemala devised mid- to long-term plans in 2013 to turn six streets of district 7 in Guatemala City, areas home to many Koreans, into Guatemala’s Korea Town. Since then, the ROK Embassy has worked with the Guatemala City municipality and built various facilities around Avenida Seúl.
3. The creation of the Korea Town in Guatemala is a symbolic project that sets a new milestone in the almost 50-year history of Korean immigration to Guatemala. It especially carries big significance in that Korea is the first country to create a cultural zone in Guatemala among many foreign communities there.
