1. An agreement by which Finland pledged its contribution to the ASEM Symposium on the Iron Silk Road be
held in Seoul from June 17 to 18, 2004, was signed between Dr. Dahl-Ho Song, President, Korea Railroad
Research Institute and Lauri Korpinen, Ambassador of Finland in Korea at the Treaty Signing Room of the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade on May 21, 2004.
2. By signing this agreement, Finland, which is a co-host of this symposium together with the ROK, will
contribute 50,000 Euros to the organization of Symposium.
3. The ASEM Symposium on the Iron Silk Road will be held to discuss way to connect railways in Asia and
Europe at the expert level. Government officials in their individual capacity and experts of ASEM partners,
namely 10 Asian countries, 15 EU countries and EC and 6 non-partners, namely North Korea, Russia,
Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Poland, and Czech, and of ASEF, UN ESCAP, OSJD, and UIC are invited to attend the
Symposium. The outcomes of this Symposium will be reported at the 5th ASEM Summit Meeting to be held
in Hanoi from October 8 to 9, 2004.
