1. The Seoul Park in Tehran, the capital city of the Islamic Republic of Iran, opened on April 14, 2003.
2. The opening ceremony, participated Ambassador to Iran Lee Sang-chul, Iranian Vice President Mehr-
Alizadeh, acting Mayor of Tehran Moghimi, as well as many other Iranian officials and Korean businessmen
working in Iran, consisted of tape-cutting at the main gate of the Seoul Park, unveiling of the tablet
(regarding the opening of the Seoul Park to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic
relations), and performance by the Korean elementary school pupils in Iran.
3. In the congratulatory remarks, Ambassador Lee noted that the ROK has become the only country in the
world to have the Seoul Street (1977), Korea Square (2002) and Seoul Park in Tehran, reflecting the close
relationship between the ROK and Iran. He stressed that the opening of the Seoul Park has a very
significant meaning for the promotion of bilateral relations between the ROK and Iran. Vice President Mehr-
Alizadeh noted that the opening of the Seoul Park is the result of consistent developments in the ROK-Iran
relations on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and hoped
that the opening of the Seoul Park will provide an opportunity to further promote cultural exchanges
between the two countries.
4. The Seoul Park, with the size of 10,000㎡ is a newly constructed park located in the heart of northern
Tehran. Former Mayor of Tehran Malek-Medani named it in 2002 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the
establishment of diplomatic relations between the ROK and Iran, followed by constructions of various
facilities, flower gardens and the main gate.
5. The opening of the Seoul Park is expected to significantly contribute to the uplifting of Iranians' awareness
in Koreans and the promotion of bilateral relations through cultural exchanges such as the Korean music
performances and art exhibitions.
