Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and Côte d’Ivoire are eyeing a stronger cooperation under the NDP 2026-2030
As reported by many local newsoutlets, Côte d’Ivoire is seeking to strengthen cooperation with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) as part of the implementation of its National Development Plan (PND) 2026-2030. During a meeting in Abidjan on September 7, Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé received AIIB President Zou Jiayi, with discussions focusing on how the bank can better support Côte d’Ivoire’s development priorities.
Zou Jiayi emphasized that Côte d’Ivoire’s priorities, particularly infrastructure development, industrial zones, and regional and sub-regional connectivity, are closely aligned with the AIIB’s mandate. She expressed the bank’s willingness to identify additional infrastructure projects in Côte d’Ivoire and to use its engagement as a platform for strengthening Asia–Africa cooperation and West African integration. Côte d’Ivoire, which is a non-regional member of the Beijing-based multilateral development bank, could therefore benefit from increased AIIB financing for infrastructure, energy, urban development, digital connectivity, and climate-related projects.
IMF praises Côte d’Ivoire’s economic performance and debt management
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has praised Côte d’Ivoire for its economic performance over the past three years, following the completion of its latest IMF-supported programme. During a meeting with President Ouattara in Abidjan today on September 8, IMF Resident Representative Aminata Touré described the programme as a “great success,” highlighting the reduction of macroeconomic imbalances, improvements in public finances, and better debt management.
According to the IMF representative, Côte d’Ivoire has brought its budget deficit within the 3% of GDP threshold, while its assessment of the risk of debt distress improved from moderate to low during the programme. Touré also emphasized that Côte d’Ivoire’s performance compares favorably with that of other countries in the sub-region, with relatively few achieving a similar level of macroeconomic consolidation.
The Government has resumed work after a month-long break
In the news on tv yesterday night one could notice that Ministers of the government resumed their official duties on September 7, 2026, following a month-long vacation. The return marks the reopening of government activities for the September period, with ministers expected to address several important issues and continue implementing public policies. Interior and Security Minister General Vagondo Diomandé called for renewed commitment, efficiency, responsibility, and a strong focus on delivering results for the population.
Among the issues awaiting the government are the fight against illegal gold mining and the upcoming Financial Action Task Force (FATF/GAFI) evaluation mission. A Cabinet meeting is also expected to take place during the week at the Presidential Palace in Abidjan, chaired by President Alassane Ouattara. The government’s return therefore comes at a time when Côte d’Ivoire faces several important economic, security, and financial-governance priorities.
