Attending the 2025 Vancouver Kimchi & K-Food Festival

DATE
2025-09-10

Consul General Jongho Kyun attended the Kimchi & K-Food Festival held at an outdoor venue in Greater Vancouver. In his congratulatory remarks, he expressed his hope that, at a time of growing interest in K-content, the festival designed to let participants experience both Korean food and culture would help deepen familiarity with and understanding of Korea.

The two-day event, held on Friday, September 5 and Saturday, September 6, featured kimchi-making and tasting programs organized by the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Vancouver, along with a wide range of cultural activities such as K-pop cover dance, taekwondo and samulnori performances, hanbok experiences, and a “Squid Game” challenge. Food booths offering tteokbokki, bibimbap, Korean fried chicken, and more gave visitors the chance to enjoy Korean cuisine alongside cultural programs.

On the festival days, large crowds gathered, prompting organizers to implement crowd control measures for safety. Many attendees waited over 30 minutes to enter, highlighting the unprecedented level of interest in Korean culture and food in Canada.

The event was hosted by the Burnaby North Road Business Association and the Brown Bag Business Community, and organized in collaboration with the Korean Consulate in Vancouver, the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT), Gyeonggi Province, and local cultural organizations in Vancouver.

Distinguished guests included Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley, Coquitlam Mayor Richard Stewart, BC Minister of Labour Jennifer Whiteside, Parliamentary Secretary for Trade Paul Choi (Korean name: Byung-ha Choi ), Associate Deputy Minister for Children Rohini Arora, and Associate Deputy Minister for Gender Equity Jennifer Blatherwick.
