Korea-Nevada Driver’s License Reciprocity Agreement Signed (March 7, 2025)

DATE
2025-03-07

Nevada residents will now be exempt from the driving skills test when obtaining a driver’s license while staying in Korea.

Consul General Youngwan Kim signed the Driver’s License Reciprocity Agreement with the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) on behalf of the Commissioner General of the Korean National Police Agency.

Under this agreement, Korean nationals residing in Nevada who hold a valid Korean driver’s license (Class 1 General, Large, or Special, or Class 2 General) will be exempt from the driving skills test and will be able to obtain a Nevada non-commercial driver’s license (Class C) by passing only the written exam. The same policy will apply to Nevada residents staying in Korea.

This agreement is set to take effect on March 19 (Wednesday). With this, Korea became the second country after Taiwan to sign a driver’s license reciprocity agreement with Nevada, while Nevada became the 28th U.S. state to establish such an agreement with Korea.

In late 2023, Consul General Kim met with Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo and emphasized the necessity of this agreement to facilitate smooth economic cooperation and human exchanges between Korea and Nevada. Governor Lombardo agreed, leading to the start of discussions and the eventual signing of the agreement.

Consul General Kim stated, “I expect this agreement to contribute to economic cooperation between Korea and Nevada and to enhance the convenience of Korean nationals residing abroad.”
