Seoul will host the third Summit for Democracy from March 18-20.

The Office of the President on Feb. 20 said the event's plenary session, ministerial meetings and workshops will be held under the theme "Democracy for Future Generations."

The summit's opening day will see ministers' talks and expert roundtables and the next day will feature themed discussions and workshops led by civic figures from home and abroad.

The plenary session attended by heads of state on the evening of March 20 will be done by videoconferencing.

The inaugural summit was launched in 2021 under the leadership of U.S. President Joe Biden in 2021 amid the rise of authoritarianism worldwide to reinforce the unity of the democratic camp. About 110 countries including Korea took part in that event in December 2021 and some 120 attended the second edition in March last year.

Korea was one of the co-hosts of the second summit along with the U.S., Netherlands, Zambia and Costa Rica.
