Frequently Asked Questions

1. How to Apply

When applying for a Korean visa at the embassy, please note that in-person submission is required.

Email submission is not avaliable. Postal submission is only allowed in special cases, such as for applicants living in distant areas. If you are staying in a nearby area, please visit the office in person to submit your application.

2. How Long Does It Take?

Processing time is around 2–3 weeks(14 working days) once all documents are complete. If something is missing, we'll ask you to send it, which may delay your application. Also, if your case needs in-depth review, it might take longer.

3. Required documents

All documents including your passport, must be submitted in original form. (Screenshots or edited documents are not acceptable.) Please note if any documents are found to be forged or false, your visa will be denied, and you may face consequences for future entry and exit from South Korea.

If submitting by mail, we recommend purchasing a Signature Required envelope to prevent loss or damage.

The embassy is not responsible for any loss or damage that may occur during the mailing process.

4. Dual Citizen

If you are a dual national (Korean and New Zealand), you cannot apply for a visa to enter Korea.

You must enter using your Korean passport. Entry to Korea with a New Zealand passport is not allowed.

5. F‑4 Visa for Overseas Koreans

If you have lost your Korean nationality and wish to stay in Korea long-term, you can apply for an F‑4 visa.

The F‑4 visa can be applied for at either a Korean Embassy/Consulate overseas or a local Korean Immigration Centre in Korea.

However, for male applicants under 41, if you did not lose your nationality before May 1, 2018, you will be restricted from receiving the F‑4 visa until December 31 of the year you turn 40 unless you have completed your military service prior to losing your nationality. (Military service records are required.)

6. Updating your visa if your passport number changed (click)

If you’ve renewed your New Zealand passport and your passport number has changed, you’ll need to update your visa details.

1. Go to the Visa Portal (visa.go.kr) → select “Change Passport Information”.

2. Enter the same personal details from your existing visa, then complete the steps.

3. After updating, email us to inform us, and we’ll send you the updated visa by email after reviewing your information.
